As time went on and the loneliness built up he started venturing out into the woods. Never having time before to explore the world around him before. He finally had time to take care of his mind and body. Learning many new skills that he never would've thought of in the woods.
His name give to him, "Dumb Luck Denys", started to prove true once again when he kept finding things hidden in the woods or abandoned houses. He was far enough in the woods that he wasn't bothered too much. This all changed when the walls went up at Louisville.
Now, people started streaming out into The Wilds and crime increased. He had caught a young woman name Trish stealing out of his truck. This was his chance to do things differently than he had with his brother. Instead of punishing her he tried to help, teach, and possibly befriend her.
More and more people showed up and became part of his life. After years of being lonely both before and after the Knox event he was finally becoming a part of the world and not just an observer. He was finally feeling like he was apart of another family. Maybe there was family after Borys left.
There was M, another wander like himself who showed him kindness and grace. Simon, a man who took him under his wing as an auxilary Ranger (Robbin' Rangers). Lerand, the head chef at the UC, who was always unbothered by the chaos around him. Luna, another wayward soul who he saw so much promise and goodness. Ava who amazed, and amused him with her tenacity. Bonnie, Mia and Liv who he cared for as sisters he never had.
After the UN event he caught a ride home after filing his pockets with medical equipment. The truck was overrun and he was racing though his precious woods. He caught a brief glance of a medial APC pass him. This is where his luck ran out.
His last thoughts as he surrendered to exhaustion was a peace knowing he'd get to finally watch over his brother again in the next life. And this time he'd do it right.
