Deidra never could've dreamed of all the adventures that awaited her coming into Knox county. While in the middle of another routine day she heard the announcement. After a few days thinking it over her mind was made up to head for the Prison where she had heard many good things about the people there.
After a harrowing first drive she made it to the gates and was welcomed by a solid group of people. After getting ammo, and training with one of the people in charge, Art, she became competent with a gun. Shooting had always made her nervous. More so when They arrived and the noise would draw them.
When the big day came and her turn to board the chopper, she felt a mix of emotions. Happy, sad, nervous and scared. Watching out in the distance and waving at Anna's as she left she turned and watched the direction they were headed. Knowing that now we have to move forward for those who helped us get this far.
Landing at the halfway point was so nerve wracking. Walking the fences a few times to check for holes and listen out. After being satisfied nothing was amiss she went inside and saw a HUGE assortment of food. Trying new things she had only seen on TV. If this is what new life was going to be like she could enjoy it.
After spending some time talking to people she had only met over the radio, watching others who were in the area with her, even one fella who also had cattle. It was starting to sound like old times. When her parents were alive and have friends come over. She was also happy to see some of the coupled up make sweet reunions. Doing one more loop around the fence before turning in for bed to move onto the next place.
After arriving at Cheyenne she was able to be put on a scavenge team. With her limited medical knowledge and foraging skills she was a welcome addition to the scavenging parties. During the early years Deidra stayed in the apartments but would always look for reasons to go out into the woods. She enjoyed going into the classes at the local school to help with the lessons when asked by teachers. It was crowded but joyful.
After a few years Deidra found a simple cabin near a quiet river. While smaller than Anna's Sanctuary it was along the path many used to trade and travel. She decided to keep doing what she did back in Knox and opened the doors of her home. Between nature's bounty, a small garden and the river Deidra was able to keep fed and her fridge full for passing travelers.
A few more years and she was able to get her hands on a horse and dog. Being able to travel further and scout, there would be days she didn't come home. Life was good. The powers that be kept a safe area. That being said there were still nights she'd wake up and have to remind herself she was safe.
She never drove a car again in her life.
